Anime USA 2014 | Review | AUSA Con Report

Lots of things exciting things have been happening lately! Kitty and I have both been really busy making some life changes. It might be the last time we cosplay for a while—life priorities, man. School, jobs, friends and relationships to juggle. Anyways, I’m probably moving to the East Coast, permanently. Hehehe, which is why I decided to attend Anime USA and scope out the local convention scene. Plus I’ll need to make new friends once I move too! Even if I don’t have time to cosplay, I’d still like to be involved and hang out with...

Otakon 2014: Otakon Convention Review!

Yay, I’m back from Otakon! It was really fun! Cinnabunny kept telling me that it was huge and she wasn’t lying. O_O Soooo many people. It was like the largest gathering of nerds ever, hehehe, so glorious! I wore Yuffie. =) Kitty was supposed to join me as Kairi from Kingdom Hearts but the convention conflicted with her schedule. ;_; I missed her but I had Cinnabunny to keep me company. She cosplayed Aerith from FF7 and Yang from RWBY. It was a pretty relaxing convention. Honestly, we just wandered around taking photos/cooing over other...

Akemi Homura Cosplay | Madoka Magica |Cost Breakdown

Every so often, I get emails asking how expensive it was to make my Homura cosplay from scratch. She’s still very popular and I love her simple and elegant design. Unfortunately, Homura’s costume was quite expensive for me to make, but if you’re less picky about materials or don’t commit as many mistakes as I did, you can probably recreate Homura for much cheaper. ^_^ I do track my costs so check out the spreadsheet below. Click to enlarge.  Some women spend all their money on clothes and shoes…I spend all my money on materials to...

A-kon 25 Review!

A-kon 25 Review!

A-Kon still brings back fond memories for us! Two years ago, our first A-kon opened our eyes to cosplay. Poof, it was like a whole different world existed, filled with nerdy anime and manga fans like us—where were these people growing up? Anyways, of course we had to revisit the con that popped our cosplay cherries. But I think I was more excited about visiting Kitty than going to the actual con. We hadn’t seen each other since Anime Matsuri, and all we wanted to do was laze about and chat with each other. So Friday came, and both of us...

FF8 Squall Cosplay | Gunblade Tutorial | How to make a Gunblade

Today I’ll be explaining how I made my gunblade for my FF8 genderbend Squall cosplay. I personally love gunblades, however useless and impractical they are. For my Squall cosplay, I actually picked the Dissidia character design/gunblade because I like how updated that version looks. Let’s jump right into it! (If you dislike reading, you can just watch the video below, lol.)   Here’s a list of materials you’ll need to make a gunblade: Jig Saw Scroll Saw: Helpful but not absolutely necessary Mouse sander or sanding blocks Wood:...

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | Quiet Cosplay Makeup Tutorial

From the very first time I saw her character, I wanted to cosplay as her. She just has this amazingly badass look about her. There are a few of theories as to why she looks the way that she does. Kotaku has an interesting article on the subject, and their first two theories made the most sense to me. There’s the body camo theory, and then there’s the torture theory (that she looks that way post-torture). My gut tells me to go with the camo-theory, as this just makes the most sense in my head. Or maybe it’s body camo that she...

Korean Makeup Haul and iPhone 5 Case Review

Yay! So I’ve recently become more interested in makeup! I’ve always been pretty lazy about my makeup outside of cosplay—it was day for celebration whenever I spent more than 2 minutes in the morning blotting my face with oil absorbing sheets before walking out the door…but that’s changed. ^_^ (It’s probably because I’m aging, meep! Must camouflage age lines with makeup!) With that, I’ve hauled some Korean makeup products, which I’ve heard are both affordable and good quality! Ta-da! Here are the products in order and the...

Upcycle Project: Legend of Zelda Triforce Makeup Box

I’ve been super busy with personal things going on for the last few months, and I’m finally getting back into the swing of things with my crafting! This is something that I did in my free time recently, and I thought I would share it. Any of my close friends probably know that I really like spray painting random stuff. You can take a super dull item and change it into something you adore by giving it a personal touch. I get so much satisfaction out of the transformation process, and finally seeing a finished product. About a year...

Anime Matsuri Review: Rei and Asuka at Anime Matsuri 2014!

For Anime Matsuri, we decided to team up with Atelier Heidi again for the cosplay contest. Anime Matsuri typically enlists high caliber judges who have extensive knowledge of sewing and prop work. We really wanted to impress Catherine from GSTQ Fashions and Bill Winans of Angry Dog Studios. We thought something from Evangelion would be both worthy and challenge our crafting skills. Heidi and I picked the plugsuit versions of Rei and Asuka while Kitty decided to dress as school girl Mari. =) Here is the result of our work! We are not...
